So....we're duck-sitting

Yep, imagine that. The little girl who had one point had over 30 of the rubber/stuffed variety, now has a real duck in her back yard. Thankfully, we're only duck-sitting for her friend Natalie from school.

Daffy (whom Hannah has renamed "Hannah" for the week) arrived at Natalie's house about a month ago. He was either blown into their yard after a storm or dumped after Easter (people are crazy I tell you.) He's a little brown duck that is definitely not tame.

He was living in their garage and swimming in their bathtub once a day. But I decided it was getting too hot to stay in our garage and the kiddy pool would be a much more sanitary place to swim. Unfortunately, with two big dogs in the backyard, we've had to finagle (is that a real word) a little place for him to hang out. While building said structure we had a little mishap with the dogs and the duck. I came around the corner of the garage to the sound of two little girls wailing and Lisa yelling, "Bella, no! Buddy, no!" Fortunately, Daffy seems no worse for the mouthing/chasing and is happily paddling around the pool. We're at 36 hours and counting, so hopefully he'll make it until next Monday!

My bottom is getting so big!

No, not mine! :)

This was Hannah's excuse for wanting to wear her new underwear! :)

"But Mommy, my bottom is getting so big! It's getting bigger and bigger and bigger!"

Hannah, I think your regular panties will be fine for now.

"But my bottom is too big for them, I need to wear my new panties!"

I told Chris I think she's the only female to ever be excited about a big bottom!

I'm on my third shirt....

Well, I'm wearing my third shirt of the day, well, fourth if you count the t-shirt I slept in. That should tell you what kind of day I'm having.

Isaac has had diarrhea now for 5 days. It started on Saturday when his daddy gave him a whole bag of grapes and just let him munch on them all morning long! Little kid just loves his grapes! :)

But unfortunately, they don't go through him so well.

So anyhow, back to today and day 5. His first diaper was really nasty. One of those where you open the bedroom door and are about bowled over! As I'm folding it up, a huge plop squirts out (TMI, I know). I jump back and think, "Phew! Missed that one!" Clean up the changing table and as I'm washing my hands see that no, my cat-like reflexes weren't fast enough this time.

Shirt number one goes in the laundry.

Shirt number two joins the other as we're walking out the door for preschool and I get a big ol' booger smeared from one shoulder to the other....now, a little snot is pretty average for my shirts but all the way across on a navy shirt when I'm going for groceries after drop off?

The current shirt has been on for almost 6 hours now so we'll see if it lasts! :)

Owie

I'm standing at the counter getting sandwiches ready for lunch when I hear from the tablet behind me, "Owie!"

I turn around and say, "Oh, did you bite your tongue? Just take a little drink, Peanut."

"I didn't say 'owie,' Mommy. The strawberry did when I bit him!" :)

"Oh....well, then just tell him that his family is already in your tummy so he should hurry up and let you eat him!"

Don't they just come up with the craziest things! :)

Do you ever feel.....

Do you ever feel like you're the only sane mom out there? Like your kids are the only ones growing up in a protective, conservative bubble?

Case in point....we're at the McD's play area today. And while Hannah is eating, I'm scoping out the potential playmates. Okay, two little girls. I hear them tell each other they're 4 and 5. They seem to be playing nicely together. And since they're the only ones there at the moment, well, they're in. :)

So Hannah goes to play, and they tell her they're playing "princesses" and she can be the witch! Are you kidding me!? Hannah gets upset and tells them she's not a witch, she's a little girl. The older girl laughs at her and runs away, pulling the 4 year old. Okay.

So, the older girl runs off to take a little break. And starts sipping on her iced coffee! Seriously? You're FIVE!!! The other girl sees it, and goes and starts drinking hers! My eyes are bugging out of my head at this point.

Then the older girl starts discussing what movies she's been to lately, I don't even recognize the names of the movies! (How sad is that!) Until she says, "I saw Enchanted last weekend and we're going to see Water Horse tonight." Really? I don't think that Hannah has even seen a movie that wasn't cartoon (except for her Miss PattyCake Sing Along and Resurrection Eggs). And we're pretty careful about which cartoons she sees (go back and watch Sleeping Beauty...it's scary!)

So sometimes I just feel like Hannah is going to be the "weirdo" when she starts school. She doesn't wear sweats with "juicy" across the butt, she wears long dresses to church, she has a one piece swimsuit, she's never had her nails painted or worn makeup....I just want my kids to be kids. They're barely not toddlers any more...what's the rush for them to be teenagers!?

Of course, I'm the mom who had to climb to the top and corner her 16 month old when it was time to come home too. :)

From the mouths of babes....

Oh dear....when can you teach your child not to say the first thing that comes to their head?

When we pulled into the parking lot of the preschool this morning, a little boy from her class was getting out of the car in front of us (diagonal parking).
Look, Hannah. There's your friend Jacob.
I don't like Jacob. He's mean to me.
Hannah, that's not nice to say.
Jacob is not nice!
(Praying the whole time they can't hear us!)

So then a car pulls up next to us and I hear a little boy in the car going on and on about Hannah, and the mom saying, "Oh, Hannah Montana?" And I know that it's another one of her classmates....well, lo and behold, out hops the dreaded Pierce.

As a little bit of back ground, before Christmas break, Hannah came home three times in a row with no hair bows in. And every time, "Pierce did it." He's a very cute little boy, but apparently the class bully (and is anyone surprised that his best bud is Jacob?)

Pierce gets a big smile on his face and says, "Hi Hannah!" Hannah immediately hugs my leg (I'm trying to unbuckle Isaac from the middle seat) and says, "I'm scared!" Oh dear, more embarrassment! I chuckle nervously and say, "No you're not." "Yes I am!" The mom laughs and says, "Pierce, have you been mean to Hannah?" And I'm thinking, "Yeah, he's mean to all the kids in the class!" So she has him give Hannah a piece of candy! I tell you, parents are strange!

So....when does a child realize that what you say in the privacy of your own home, isn't necessarily a good thing to talk about at the top of your lungs in the parking lot!

Oodle has left the building.

At bedtime tonight, Hannah informed me that Oodle wasn't sleeping by her bed anymore. Dreading where this was going to lead, I asked where Oodle was. Well, Oodle has gone home to her own house to sleep with her white mommy, red daddy, and pink sister. She has her own room you know. :) I think that Shadrack will be happy to see her go. :)

I was quite relieved since while I was getting Isaac ready for bed she walked in with her index finger outstreched and informed me that there was a little rooster sitting on her finger. What will this child come up with next!? Her name is "Beadle." After petting the little bird for a while, it was agreed upon that she should sleep in a quiet dark place. Hannah suggested the box of out grown clothing that was sitting on the guest bed. I suggested her bedroom closet. When we were saying prayers she informed me that Beadle was sleeping in her "panty cupboard" in the basket....well, that's as good a place as any!
